Originating in the Rhine region in Germany, the classic Riesling grape has a fantastic potential to make excellent sweet wines. 'Spätlese' refers to grapes that have fully ripened before being used for wine production, being picked at least seven days after normal harvest. Riesling spätlese wines have a naturally high acidity to them, which gives a liveliness to balance out the sweetness, creating a refreshing wine that doesn't overpower.
