Nerello Mascalese
Originating in the city of Catania, Sicily, this red wine grape is grown primarily on the slopes of Mount Etna in north-east Sicily. Nerello Mascalese is often used for varietal wines that are light-bodied, with flavours of strawberry, leather, cinnamon, and volcanic rock revealing themselves on the palate. Wines from this grape pair well with local Sicilian cuisine, most notably oily fish, as well as local pasta dishes.
