The Pink Vinum Rosé Glass
THE PINK VINUM ROSÉ GLASS - Riedel Toasts Breast Cancer Survivors Through Rosé-Colored Glasses(March 2007)

For the third year, Riedel has created a special, limited edition glass to benefit Living Beyond Breast Cancer. The Pink Vinum Rosé glass with its soft pink stem and clear bowl will be available beginning May 2007, just in time for rosé wine season. "This year we decided to create a rosé glass as the interest in and consumption of rosé wine has risen and is being enjoyed from the start of spring through Thanksgiving," said Maximilian Riedel, CEO of Riedel Crystal of America.

The glass will be sold in sets of two for $49.80, attractively packaged as a pair in a black box adorned by the pink ribbon synonymous with this important cause. Riedel will donate 15% of the proceeds from the sale of this glass to support those dealing with the devastating diagnosis of breast cancer and life beyond.

For the development of each new glass shape, Georg Riedel works with a tastemaker who is an expert on the grape or type of wine it will contain. In order to determine the right shape for the Pink Vinum Rosé glass, Georg Riedel, CEO of Riedel Crystal, convened a special rosé glass tasting panel in December 2006. The panel was led by Jeff Morgan, author of "Rosé: A Guide to the World's Most Versatile Wine" and a winemaker who produces dry rosé under the SoloRosa label. Six rosé wines from California and France were sampled from sixteen different glass shapes to determine which presented the wine to its greatest advantage, and the decision was unanimous. "The choice of which bowl shape to select for the first-ever Riedel rosé glass was complicated by the fact that it would have to compliment a rosé no matter whether it is composed of Grenache, Pinot Noir or one of the many other varietals used for this wine," states Georg Riedel. "However, ultimately the choice was clear because we all felt strongly that one glass expressed the essential character of the rosé - the flavors, aromatics and freshness of taste that is the hallmark of a fine example of this wine.

We are delighted to be able to debut Riedel's first rosé glass in support of Living Beyond Breast Cancer, and toast the strength and spirit of the survivors."

The first two glasses in the series, the Pink "O" wine tumbler (2005) and the Pink "O" Champagne glass (2006), sold out in record time, providing a donation of over $100,000 to Living Beyond Breast Cancer in the U.S.

The Pink Vinum Rosé glass is a machine-blown crystal glass based exclusively on the characteristics of the grape varietals used to create rosé wines. Originally developed by Georg Riedel, the Vinum collection was designed on the principal that the content commands the shape. To showcase each wine in its finest form, Riedel's varietally specific wine glasses enhance the aromas and taste components, finding a wine's maximum complexity by featuring the best possible harmony. The shape and size of the glass creates a balanced interaction between fruit, minerality and acidity, while de-emphasizing the evidence of alcohol. When all these elements are in place, the glass becomes the wine's 'loudspeaker,' transmitting the message of the beverage to the human senses.
