| | RIEDEL INTRODUCES LIMITED EDITION PINK "O" CHAMPAGNE GLASS TO BENEFIT BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS - A Celebration of Life and Hope (July 2006) Riedel Crystal could never have predicted the runaway success of the Pink "O" wine tumbler they created in 2005 to benefit Living Beyond Breast Cancer. Over 55,000 units of the limited edition Pink "O" glass were sold out from October through December 2005. Riedel donated 15% of the proceeds to Living Beyond Breast Cancer, producing a donation in excess of $50,000.
This special pink addition to their stemless wine glass collection was an incredible triumph for the cause. The success of the U.S. initiative spurred Riedel to offer Pink O's in Austria, Japan, U.K. and Canada and to quickly begin development of a new pink glass for 2006.
Maximilian Riedel decided to create a Pink Champagne "O" glass to toast life and hope for those women whose lives have been affected by breast cancer. After much deliberation, discussion and collaboration between Maximilian and Georg Riedel on the final design, it was Georg Riedel's design that was chosen. Maximilian says, "We liked his drawings better than mine." The Pink Champagne glass differs from the standard "O" glasses as it sits on a ribbed hollow pedestal and the bowl is an elongated tulip shape. The first handmade prototypes of the glass will be shown at the April 2006 NY Tabletop Show. Last year's quick sell out means that savvy retailers will need to place their orders quickly. Available for October 2006, a pair of Pink O Champagne glasses will retail for $27 with 15% of the wholesale price donated to Living Beyond Breast Cancer. The black box will be emblazoned with the pink ribbon synonymous with this important cause. "This was the first time we had created a special glass to benefit a charity," said Georg Riedel, "and we were both pleased and surprised at the enthusiastic response. This year, we decided on a Champagne glass - the drink of celebration - to toast the courage of the women who face this terrible disease every day and conquer it."
"We are honored to have been named the recipient of Riedel's fundraiser for the second year," said Jean Sachs, MSS, MLSP. "The money raised in 2005 allowed us to bring medical information and support to hundreds of women who could not have accessed it otherwise."
